Introduction This page covers intercity travel by bus and car. When talking about the term intercity mobility, we do not define a strict amount of kilometers. Instead, we investigate transportation from one district to another, no matter what size they have and how far the distance is, as long as both locations do not lie within the same district.
The future of long-distance mobility is closely connected to the development of urban transportation. Resulting from the described predicted development of urban mobility modes and business models, there are certain influences on long distance transportation modes, especially when it comes to ownership models of cars.
However, independent of urban transportation, there are certain factors influencing the choice of long-distance mobility modes. Burgdorf, Eisenkopf and Knorr (2018) [1] conclude that price, travel time, reliability and convenience and luggage carriage are the most important drivers for choosing oneβs mobility mode, where price is by far the most important factor, followed by travel time.
